What is Responsive Website Design?
Making your website design is 100% responsive for your users is a key factor in getting google to recognise and rank your website. This means we check and design your layout for desktops, mobile devices and iPads or tablets.
As of July 2025, 64.35% of global website traffic comes from mobile devices—this is up from approximately 60–61% in 2024 (Source :Soax)
Some sources also report a similar figure of 63.2% for mobile-generated website traffic in 2025.
A current client has a whopping 92% of all traffic coming from Mobile Devices. And how do we know this, because I set up accurate and detailed monitoring through Google Analytic.
What is Google Search Console?
Google Search Console (GSC) is the bench mark in getting your site discovered and indexed by Google. Website Design that connects to Google is essential for business success and it is ABSOLUTELY FREE
It also provides information on you users from including
- Traffic to your website design;
- Which pages Google can read and have indexed with your websites new design
- What devices they view your new website design on;
- Where your audience is coming from
- How long they spend on any page on your website;
- The “bounce rate” which is how long your users are engaged with your website before they move on.
- And so much more..
What is Essential Accessibility?
Making your website design accessible for everyone is not just a ranking factor, its common sense.
This is where the designer brain fights with the boss brain. Yep – love how it looks – but what is my ideal client and are they going to be able to use this website.
I am always aware of the neurodiverse community when designing websites. Why? Because I have been make the world look better for my autistic child since he was 3. Now towering over me, which really isn’t hard at 5″2 , I have been doing the research for years.
About 10 years ago I discovered the W3C. It amazes me how many people don’t actually know about it, and how many times I see web design templates that break every single rule . . . . WE DO NOT CENTRE BODY COPY TEXT EVER.
Rant finished.
W3C is stands for World Wide Web Consortium.
“W3C’s primary activity is to develop protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web. W3C’s standards define key parts of what makes the World Wide Web work.”
The W3C provide the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). These are the most basic guidelines for Website Design and Content .
There are 5 areas these guidelines cover:
- Perceivable
- Operable
- Understandable
- Robust
- Conformance
These 5 areas cover a lot of ground but they include important information to keep your website relevant and accessible for all.
Website Design with us will include:
- Logical Navigation
- Text contrast (3:1 rule)
- Line height, word spacing + letter spacing as advised by WC3
- Minimising automatic Blinking + Scrolling
- Following the Flashing Rule (3 flashes rule)
- Alt Image Text (for vision impaired and for SEO Optimisation)
- Hovering and Focus on essential parts of your website design message
- Adaptability (which we call responsive – turn your phone and the website adjusts for example
All of these guidelines are apart of our design process ensuring your website design can reach all of your audience.
Why is Readability a Good Idea?
Google will rank your site based an a lot of different factors – and readability is one of them.
As we discussed in accessibility, readability is an essential part of accessibility.
- Navigation
- Text contrast (3:1 rule)
- Line height, word spacing + letter spacing
- Alt Image Text (for vision impaired
- Adaptability (which we call responsive – turn your phone and the website adjusts for example
On readability (they age of the person your writing for) the W3C states:
“When text requires reading ability more advanced than the lower secondary education level after removal of proper names and titles, supplemental content, or a version that does not require reading ability more advanced than the lower secondary education level, is available.”
This suggest content should be able to be read and understood by an 8th or 9th Grader. That’s around a 12 – 14 years old. I have seen many other suggestions for younger but this benchmark has been around for a while with W3C and they are always reviewing their standards.
